Focus On Keeping Cool

“The heat is on" for most of Wisconsin and FOCUS ON ENERGY® has a few tips to help you stay cool as the heat jumps to triple digits. In addition to these energy efficiency tips, don’t forget to check out your local public pools and splash pads, as well as your County Cooling Centers if you need a place to cool off. And check on loved ones, especially those without A/C, and make sure they can stay cool as well.

  • Run fans to create a cool breeze and remember, fans cool you, not the room. So, turn it off when you leave the room. Need a new fan? ENERGY STAR® certified ceiling fans with lights are 60% more efficient than standard fans with lights.
  • Close blinds, shades, and curtains during hot summer days to prevent the sunlight from heating up the air inside your home. When cooler temperatures are expected at night and the humidity isn’t too high, open some windows to let in cool air overnight. This will give your A/C a buffer, so it will not need to kick on right away when the day starts to heat up.
  • ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostats can help you improve home comfort any time of year. Plus, receive an instant rebate when you purchase on the Focus on Energy Online Marketplace.
