River Falls – The owner of University Village Apartments in River Falls will see savings for years to come thanks to a trio of energy efficiency projects, but it’s the instant discount that pushed those projects forward.
Focus on Energy and River Falls Municipal Utilities combined to present the owner of University Village Apartments, Jerry Morrow, with a check for more than $20,000 earlier this year.
The money is an incentive payment for three energy efficiency projects at the complex: upgrading insulation, upgrading lighting and installing 64 new heating and cooling units. Estimated annual savings from the three projects is more than 85,000 kWh of electricity—enough to meet the electricity needs of 9.5 average homes.
Chris Peshek, an Energy Advisor with Focus on Energy’s Multifamily Energy Savings Program, says Morrow reached out to ask about energy-efficient changes. Peshek took it from there.
“The Energy Advisor was very helpful and made the whole process very easy. I basically had to sit back and wait for the checks,” Morrow said.
More than $14,000 of the incentive money came from Focus on Energy, Wisconsin’s utility-funded statewide energy efficiency and renewables program. The rest came from River Falls Municipal Utilities, which matched the incentive of each of the three projects up to $5,000. The bonuses from the utility added nearly $10,000 to the incentive total.
The utility offers bonus incentives for energy efficiency projects at schools, businesses and homes they serve. You can learn more about those bonuses here.
